今では考えられないが、精神疾患患者が家人となった場合、日本憲法にて私宅監置という法が施され、事実適用されていた。
コンクリートでできた冷たい部屋が家の離れに設置され、患者はそこを住居とし、閉ざされた闇の中で暮らしていた。
あるものは食事を運ぶための小さな窓と簡易式のトイレのみ。
世間の目からひた隠すように扱われ、最低限の生活を余儀なくされるためのもので尊厳もあったものではない。
狭く暗い悪臭漂う部屋で衰弱する者や発狂する者も現れ、精神状態はさらに増悪。
結果さらに内縁の者達との距離は遠ざかり、深い孤独の空間だけがそこにあった。
